Journeys of The Spirit Festival - Rome

The second edition of JOSP Fest will take place at the "Nuova Fiera di Roma" and will begin January 14 to 17 involving all the different religious realities of the world and the idea to explore and discover the heritage and the proposals that the world Spiritual journeys can offer.

JOSP Fest, Journeys of the Spirit Festival, is in fact the event which promotes the experience related to the "journey of the spirit" (International Festival of the spiritual journey). The festival is a pilgrimage through places and cultures, and is a way to discover what the world can offer to those who are really motivated to travel and learn.

The Festival, after the 2009 edition, he decided to turn the public young and old, and operators. The real innovation in its genre is that it focuses not only on pilgrimages, but also the deepening of the inner journey that these can offer.

The Festival, with its large exhibition, spaces within the new Fiera di Roma and allows visitors to communicate with the many realities of the world to participate in a cultural exchange of ideas, information and promotions for those who want to take these "journeys of Spirit ", with an eye on the dynamic aspects of such an experience can give.

Inside JOSP numerous initiatives in art and music, through a wide variety of programs, conferences and shows.

Michelangelo architect in Rome

Michelangelo Buonarroti, one of the greatest exponents of the Italian Renaissance, he left his indelible imprint in the enchanting city of Rome. It deals with exceptional works such as the Basilica di San Pietro, Piazza del Campidoglio, Porta Pia, the Palazzo Farnese, the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, the Church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini and the Sforza Chapel. The exhibition "Michelangelo architect in Rome" will show the genius of an artist who was divided between the art of Rome and Florence. Through more than one hundred works, including models, portraits, autographed drawings, old prints, original documents and volumes will cover the full history of Michelangelo's art.

The 17 chronological sections of the exhibition "Michelangelo architect in Rome" starts from the relationship with Pope Julius II della Rovere, and his tomb, which occupied him until his last day, at the big order of Paul III Farnese as corrections to the Piazza del Capitol, before moving on to finish the Palazzo Farnese and the great role of the architect of the Fabbrica di San Pietro. Not to mention the plans for the church of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini and Porta Pia, the Sforza Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and the amendments to the Baths of Diocletian.

Besides the exhibition, there are a series of guided tours to Michelangelo's places in the weekends or in Christmas.
The exhibition "Michelangelo architect in Rome" is designed by the Associazione Culturale Metamorfosi, under the High Patronage of the Italian President, promoted by the Ministry for Arts and Cultural Affairs, City of Rome, Department for Cultural Policy and Communication, Committee on Culture, National Heritage Superintendence, the Lazio Region, the Province of Rome, the museum services of Zètema Culture Project and with the collaboration of banks Treasurer of the City of Rome, the Fondazione Guglielmo Giordano and Fondazione Lars Magnus Ericsson.

Christmas and New Year - Auditorium in Rome

Calder - Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome

For the first time in Rome, opens the exhibition of Alexander Calder. At the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome from October 23, 2009 until 14 February 2010.
The American author of the famous "Mobile" sculptures is one of the most famous artist of modernity, was born in Lawnton, Pennsylvania in 1898 and died in New York in 1976.

Calder grew up in a family of artists: his father and grandfather were both sculptors of success, while his mother was a painter. Despite his early artistic talent, Calder and performs the job of studying engineering before deciding that his work will be the artist. In 1923 moves to New York and began studying drawing and painting at the Art Students League.
After graduation and an involvement in the Parisian avant-garde during the '20s, the following years Calder made his first Mobile, which was Marcel Duchamp to give his name.
In these sculptures, Calder standardize the form, color and movement.
At the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome will be on display over 100 of these works from major public and private collections and from the Calder Foundation, creating an itinerary that starts from the creations of the twenties.
Will be exhibited among them, a selection of the most important works by Calder, including some of the sculptures in the exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in 1943.
There will be some curiosity as works rarely seen by the general public.
Launch of the exhibition shows the way of Rome sculptures in iron wire (Wire Sculpture) of acrobats, animals and portraits, created mostly in the '20s in Paris.
A lesser-known series of small bronzes of 1930 with pictures of contortionists and acrobats, will watch as Calder has built 's idea of movement in his art through the experience of different techniques.
The participation of all Calder abstraction, occurs after a visit to Mondrian's Paris studio, and is documented by an' important selection of works. Through some masterpieces made in the mid-30s instead, we can retrace the passion to Calder for the current surrealism.

Dada and Surrealism at the Vittoriano in Rome

At the Vittoriano Complex in the center of Rome. "The rediscovery of Dada and Surrealism" from 9 October 2009 to February 7, 2010 is revealed as one of the largest and most detailed exhibitions on Dada and Surrealism, implemented by the renowned art historian and philosopher Arturo Schwarz.

Sculptures, paintings, readymades, collage, assemblages, drawings and installations across the full path of the many protagonists of these two revolutionary movements that in their manifestos and in their exhibitions have had the merit to create a subversive avant-garde, with radical influences in all the art after the mid-twentieth century.

Dada and Surrealism are recognized fact, as the only avant-garde movements that in addition to propose an artistic revolution, in promoting a new model of artist with new social ideas in conflict with the times particular moment that sees consumism in its early days.

The exhibition is full of the most important and recognizable works ever, since Duchamp's famous urinal-fountain and the Mona Lisa with mustache, Man Ray’s metronome with the eye and the surreal paintings of Magritte.

The exhibition is also an opportunity to discover the two artistic movements through the work and experiments of Dada and Surrealism artists less known but certainly contributed to the spread of this great revolution in art and thought of the twentieth century

Rome Cinema Film Festival 2009

From October 15 to 23 Rome will host the International Film Festival 2009: nine days of cinema, and international stars, exhibitions, events, music, retrospectives, and many other meetings at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and elsewhere in Capital.
The event begins with a preview of “Triad”, directed by Danis Tanovic (Oscar winner), with Christopher Lee and Paz Vega and a great Party to the French Academy at Villa Medici.

The fourth edition of the Rome Film Festival will be dedicated to women, with Margherita Buy, the career award to Meryl Streep, and the first works as a director of actresses like Helen Mirren and Stefania Sandrelli.
There will be famous Hollywood male stars like George Clooney, Richard Gere, Terry Gilliam and the protagonists of the new phenomenon Twilight: Jamie Campbell Bower and Cameron Bright.
The contest is about 137 films, including 14 in competition in the official section and 8 out of competition with 8 special events.

Over the weekend presentation of "Up in the Air" by Jason Reitman with the couple George Clooney - Elisabetta Canalis in the following week and other arthouse films like The Last Station by Michael Hoffman and Vision by Margarethe Von Trotta.

Equally important films out of competition: The Coen Brothers present "A Serious Men" their new comedy, while Nora Ephron film shows us the fun-culinary "Julie & Julia" with Meryl Streep, and "The City of Your Final Destination” by James Ivory with Anthony Hopkins and Laura Linney.
The section “the other cinema” was created to make meetings with the major entertainment. This year will be Meryl Streep, Richard Gere, Paulo Coelho, Asia Argento and a the director’s duo Tornatore - Muccino.

Among the special events, a tribute to the late Heath Ledger with a screening of his novel as a director and the presentation of his latest film as protagonist "The Immaginarium of Doctor Parnassus", and the marathon "Red Riding Trilogy" a British TV thriller.

Also this year the historic tribute to the great masters of cinema will be dedicated to Sergio Leone, Luciano Emmer, Luciano Salce and Tullio Kezich.

Rome Jazz Festival 2009 - Auditorium Parco della Musica

The foundation "Musica per Roma" and the "International Music Festival Foundation" presents the 33° edition of "Rome Jazz Festival": this year named "Jazz Labels". The leitmotiv is the relationship between the International Jazz labels and the indie italian labels.

This edition walk above the history of Jazz Labels: the 90th year from the first italian jazz record, the 70th "Blue Note" birthday (the most important jazz labels of all time), the 50th "A Kind of Blue" anniversary (probably the most important jazz record of history) and the tribute for the italian label ECM 40th anniversary.

Many important jazz artists take part to the event: Stefano Bollani trio and the "So What Band" a super tribute band for a "Kind of Blue", the "Aires Tango", the cuban "Roberto Fonseca", the "David Murray Quartet", "Richard Galliano" and many others.
